Alert: Partial General Strike and Demonstration in Montevideo (June 22, 2023)

Location: Montevideo, Uruguay

Events: The PIT-CNT called for a partial general strike on 27 June from 0900 until 1300 hours and will organize a march beginning at 1000 in the La Teja neighborhood near the Teja Refinery and marching to the corner of Carlos María Ramírez and Carlos Tellier. As many as 5,000 people are expected to attend.
Also, the group Coordinadora 27 de Junio plans a demonstration for June 27th beginning at Luis de Herrera Avenue and Francisco Simon Street beginning at 1800 hours to mark the 50-year anniversary of the coup d’état.
Transportation and services will be affected during these events.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings and demonstrations
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Keep a low profile.
