Location:  Uruguay
Event: Explosion in Punta Carretas

There are reports of an explosion in a building in the Villa Biarritz neighborhood of Punta Carretas.  The building is reported to be significantly damaged and there are injuries reported.  Fire and safety personnel are working in the area.  Traffic will be affected.  Avoid the area until the event is cleared and use caution if you must pass through.

U.S. Embassy Montevideo will continue to review the security situation and will provide additional information as needed.
