Sustained Interest in Strengthening Partnerships: Special Assistant to the President Juan S. Gonzalez and Acting Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Julie Chung visit Uruguay  

Special Assistant to the President Juan Gonzalez and Acting Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs Julie Chung and will travel to Uruguay April 14-15. As part of their trip to the region, Gonzalez and Chung also visit Colombia and Argentina.

During this visit by senior U.S. government officials, Gonzalez and Chung will meet with Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo, other senior government officials, and members of civil society. The focus will be on common regional priorities, such as the climate crisis, the COVID pandemic, and threats to democracy, human rights and security in the hemisphere and globally.

Following the visit of Southern Command Commander Admiral Craig S. Faller to Uruguay last week, Gonzalez and Chung’s arrival in the country reflects the continued interest of President Joe Biden’s administration in strengthening and expanding strategic partnerships with countries in the hemisphere to enhance joint responsiveness to global threats and challenges.

All meetings and events on the agenda will comply with current COVID-19 health protocols.
