Message to U.S. Citizens: Renew Your Passport Ahead of Planned Travel
February 6, 2020
Location: Uruguay
Event: Renew your U.S. passport with sufficient time ahead of your planned travel
Due to a recent surge in demand for passport renewals, the wait time to schedule a passport appointment at the U.S. Embassy in Montevideo is running longer than usual.
What to do: Check your U.S. passport expiration date now
Action to take: If your passport will expire within the next year, schedule an appointment to renew it. Visit our passport webpage for passport renewal instructions and scheduling.
You do not have to wait for your passport to expire, or for it to be within six months of expiration in order to renew it.
Some countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months beyond the dates of your trip. Learn more about your destination’s entry requirements.
