The U.S.’s Charge d’Affaires in Uruguay, Ms. Jennifer Savage, hosted a recognition ceremony at the Chief of Mission’s residence for graduates of the U.S. International Military Education and Training Program for 2020 and 2021. Ms. Savage was joined by Uruguayan Minister of Defense Dr. Javier Garcia, military leaders, and more than 55 military and civilian members that support the Uruguayan military.
The U.S. International Military Education and Training program has provided training to military and civilian personnel from around the world since 1976, and here in Uruguay via the U.S. Embassy’s Office of Defense Cooperation founded in 1951.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020 and 2021 Uruguayan students completed in-person and virtual courses in traditional military disciplines like pilot instrument procedures and staff courses, and in cutting-edge disciplines like cybersecurity.
