Vice President Mike Pence met today with Peruvian President Martín Vizcarra to discuss the strong partnership between the two countries. Vice President Pence thanked him for hosting the Summit of the Americas in Lima and underscored the need for countries in the region to work together to bring democracy back to the great people of Venezuela. The two leaders discussed the horrific chemical weapons attack in Syria and the Vice President noted our resolve to deter future attacks. They agreed to stay in touch to strengthen the robust bilateral relationship between our countries.

Vice President Mike Pence met today with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to discuss issues of importance to the bilateral relationship, particularly strong U.S.-Mexican cooperation on trade, security and immigration issues. The Vice President emphasized the importance of reaching a fair and reciprocal agreement on NAFTA very soon, and recognized Mexico for its active leadership in confronting the deteriorating situation in Venezuela. Both leaders agreed on the need to work together and with other regional partners to restore Venezuelan democracy.

Vice President Mike Pence met today with President Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia to discuss ways to deepen the close friendship and longstanding partnership between the United States and Colombia. Vice President Pence thanked President Santos for recent efforts to curb coca cultivation and cocaine production and noted the need to continue to do more. The two leaders discussed the recent horrific use of chemical weapons in Syria and the Vice President noted the United States’ resolve to deter future attacks. The two leaders also spoke about the final steps that Colombia must take to attain full OECD accession, and had a full discussion about their shared commitment to pressure the Maduro regime to restore democracy to Venezuela.

Vice President Mike Pence met today with Chilean President Sebastian Piñera to highlight the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries, and to discuss issues of interest including trade, security and strengthening democracy. The leaders roundly condemned the horrific use of chemical weapons against civilians in Syria, and the Vice President noted U.S. resolve to deter future attacks. The two leaders also addressed the disastrous humanitarian crisis in Venezuela and emphasized that the region must do more to return democracy to Venezuela.
