Diversity Immigrant Visa Program 2024
The statutorily mandated Diversity Immigrant Visa Program avails approximately 50.000 Diversity Visas (DVs) annually worldwide. The winners are selected through a randomized computer drawing of entrants coming from countries with low immigration rates to the United States within the last 5 years, including Uruguay.
The Diversity Visa Program registration period runs from 1:00 p.m. (local time), on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, through Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. (local time). The registration must be done electronically through the official website https://dvprogram.state.gov during the registration period.
We encourage DV program entrants to apply early, since extremely heavy demand in the final days of the registration period may prevent some individuals from submitting entries. Entries received after the registration period deadline, 2:00 p.m. on November 8, 2022, will not be accepted.
There is no cost to register for the DV Program.
In order for entrants to qualify they must:
- Be individuals born in countries whose natives qualify.
- At least have a high school education or its equivalent (bachillerato in Spanish) or two years of work experience (within the past five years) in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience to perform(as stated by the U.S. Department of Labor’s O*Net Online database).
It’s very important to read the DV Program instructions carefully and follow them thoroughly.

Attention / Fraud Alert
Fraudulent internet sites pretend to be U.S. government official websites. Some of these fraudulent sites ask for money in order to complete the Diversity Visa Lottery forms.
That is why it is very important to know that there is no cost to register for the DV Program.
To prevent fraud, we clarify that the only way to register is through the website: https://dvprogram.state.gov/. It’s important to take into account that notifications will only be made through each applicant’s official account. Any notification received via email, telephone, etc., isn’t official and isn’t valid.
We urge applicants to avoid “visa consultants” who charge a fee, stating that, with their assistance, applicants have more or better chances of being selected in the lottery. We DON’T work with “visa consultants,” and they can do NOTHING to improve an applicant’s chances of being selected in the lottery.
