Summer Work & Travel Program

Summer Work Travel

The U.S. Embassy in Montevideo invites all Uruguayan students engaged in post-secondary studies to consider the Summer Work Travel program.  This program provides foreign students with an opportunity to live and work in the United States during their summer vacation from college or university to experience and to be exposed to the people and way of life in the United States.

You may find more information on the program at the official website

Students participating in this program usually arrange their stay in the United States through a recruiting agency that has been accredited by the U.S. Department of State.  The fees charged by travel agents vary significantly.  While most students use travel agents based in their own country, it is also possible to use accredited travel agencies located in other countries or contact official program sponsors in the United States directly.

The basic package provided by accredited travel agents includes the following services:

  • Arranging all required paperwork with U.S. authorities,
  • Helping locate a job and housing in the United States,
  • Scheduling the visa interview, and
  • Providing travel insurance and contacts in the United States that will help in the event of an emergency.

If you are interested in using the services of an accredited recruiting agency, the following is a list of authorized agencies previously used by Summer Work Travel program applicants in Uruguay. The U.S. Embassy in Montevideo does not endorse the use of any particular agency and only provides this information as a resource for potential Summer Work Travel program applicants.
